A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
