Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
