Ex- Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of performing sexual assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.
The Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:
- Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
