Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
